Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) is defined by its sources — legal, open, public and commercial. It is vibrant, adaptable and has no set rules as to what tools a practitioner “should use” to uncover intelligence, organize it and make sense of it. OSINT sources can include anything found on the open web, deep web or dark web including but not limited to: official and unofficial documents, gray literature, websites, social media, news, reports, white papers, databases and human sources. The complete process of OSINT includes collecting data, analyzing it, distilling its complexity into meaningful insights and communicating the results into easy to understand bits of knowledge that helps give a clearer view of a situation, scenario or to answer a specific question.
